The Northern Maine Pioneers are proud to announce that two aging-out players have officially committed to continue their hockey careers at the NCAA Division III level following the 2025–2026 season.
Forward Liam Schaentzler (#23), a 6’3” center from Long Island, New York, has committed to Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania. Schaentzler will join the Cougars program under Head Coach Kevin Cole, alongside assistants Stanley Jatczak and Scott Swanson. He plans to pursue a degree in Business Economics while continuing his athletic career.
Pioneers captain Evan Hughes (#24) of Rutland, Vermont, has committed to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where he will skate with the Trailblazers. The 6’1” forward will play under Head Coach Marcus Gloss, with Assistant Coach Tanner Flachs, and intends to study Nutrition and Health Sciences.
Both Schaentzler and Hughes made a lasting impact on the Pioneers organization. Their power on the ice, grit in every shift, and leadership in the locker room played a major role in shaping the team’s identity throughout the season.
The Pioneers organization is incredibly proud of both players and grateful for everything they brought to the program. Their presence will be missed, but their next chapters are just beginning.
Once a Pioneer, always a Pioneer; you will always have a home here in Aroostook County.
